Thank you to all who came out to see Sharon Elise, Ying Wu, Chris Vannoy, Jim Moreno, and Tomas Gayton in November. Un abrazo fuerte to muralists Jose Hugo Sanchez and Hugo Crosthwaite for engaging our audience in creative cross-border dialogue. Great love to all the fans and participants who brought beverages and food to share, and to all who made music, danced and performed poetry in the museum. Congrats to our People’s Choice winners who took home el dinero! The one and only DJ Barry Thomas made a musical thread that kept us flowing throughout the night. And Jennifer, Anya, Emma, Kevin, Audrey, Mr. Kamdar, Jimmy Jazz (The Best Surfer in San Diego), Billiekai, Bill Harding, and Ted Washington made it all happen behind the scenes. Big hugs and much love for all your help! Special thanks to SDAI’s new director Jaqueline A. Silverman for believing in us and supporting the show.

My colleague and friend Jim Moreno invited me to read at Cafe Cabaret on Adams Avenue this Tuesday. I am honored because I love and admire Jim and the late, great Jihmye Collins, who has inspired me for many years. Jim will be collecting one or two canned goods for Food, Not Bombs in Tijuana to help them feed the homeless four days a week for free at Enclave Caracol. (Starting in January the binational, bilingual chapter of The ReEvolutionary Poets Brigade will do an open mic at Enclave Caracol the last Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. and donate collected canned goods to their effort to feed the homeless in TJ near the Arch and across from the wax museum in T.J.)
The Details: Cafe Cabaret Presents Jihmye Poetry Open Mic Tuesday, 2nd Tuesdays, Dec. 12, 2017, 7 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. No Cover. 3739 Adams Ave., San Diego, CA 92114, three blocks west of the Ken Cinema and one block west of the I-15 overpass on Adams Ave.
